Frequently asked questions

Getting Started

You just need your restaurant's basic info: name, address, and contact details.

You don't need to buy anything first. If you already use a POS (point-of-sale) system to manage orders and payments, it may connect directly. If not, DoorDash can send you a tablet, and everything syncs to your Merchant Portal.

No. You can receive orders via email or DoorDash's Business Manager App. If you already use Square, Toast, Clover, or another POS system, orders can often integrate directly, or DoorDash can provide a tablet. Either way, there's nothing extra to buy to get started.

Most restaurants can get their menu live within hours, not weeks. In fact, on average, 40% of SMB (small and medium-sized business) restaurant merchants onboard to DoorDash the same day they sign up, so you could be receiving orders faster than you think. (Based on internal DoorDash data from merchants onboarded between Jan 2026 and March 2026.)

A DoorDash merchant is a business that lists its menu on the DoorDash app through DoorDash for Merchants, making it easier for nearby customers to discover and order from you. Close to 30% of orders received by small-business restaurants on DoorDash in 2025 were from new consumers, helping restaurants reach people they might not have reached otherwise. (Based on internal DoorDash data from January 2025 through December 2025.)

Yes. The 0% commission trial lets small and independent restaurants test real demand before committing, with no signup fee, no monthly fee, and transparent commission once the trial ends. In 2025, over 20% of active DoorDash consumers ordered from at least one small business restaurant each month on average, so the demand is already there. (Based on internal DoorDash data from Jan 2025 through December 2025.)

Fill out the sign-up form with your restaurant's name, address, email, and phone number, then choose your business type. After you submit the form, a DoorDash onboarding specialist will help you build your menu and set up your Merchant Portal. This is the dashboard you’ll use to manage orders, track payouts, and view customer feedback. Once everything is set up, you can start receiving orders.

Pricing & Fees

No. Delivery commission runs 15% to 30% depending on your plan (Basic, Plus, or Premier), and pickup commission is 6% on every plan. Choose the plan that fits how you want to grow, and adjust it over time.

Once you're up and running, tools like Online Ordering let you take orders directly through your own site and social channels. Those orders don't run through the Marketplace, so they aren't subject to the commission rates above, meaning you keep more of what you earn on them.

Yes. New restaurants get a 0% commission trial for up to 30 days on either the Plus Plan or Premier Plan. The Basic Plan offers a 7-day 0% commission trial. There's no contract, so you can cancel or switch plans anytime.

No. There's a $0 signup fee and $0 monthly fee on all plans. The only fee you pay is commission when an order comes in, and your commission rate depends on your plan and whether it's delivery or pickup.

DoorDash offers different plans with varying commission rates and features. You can compare each plan to find the option that best fits your restaurant’s needs. See our DoorDash plan comparison for details on pricing, features, and what’s included with each plan.

Once you're live, payouts follow DoorDash's standard payment schedule and appear in your Merchant Portal. See our guide on understanding your payout and monthly statement for the full breakdown.

Other

Yes. You control your own hours and menu and can update them anytime, including during a rush, right from your Merchant Portal.

This page is for restaurant owners listing their business, not for a DoorDash driver looking to deliver. If you want to earn money on the road using the Dasher app, head to the Dasher sign-up page instead.

No. Signing up is a legitimate process directly through DoorDash for Merchants' official site, and you'll manage everything from your own secure Merchant Portal. You'll only ever be asked for basic business details — never payment to sign up.
